On the moon of the 30th century there lived a little girl. This little girl was a princess who was always alone. She had stopped growing and lacked the powers of her mother. More than anything the little girl wanted to be like her mother. So one day, she stole her mother’s crystal, the source of her power, to try and prove she had power of her own. But then evil over shadowed the moon and the queen was helpless, and the little girl, still unawakened could do nothing to stop it. So her beloved mother, her idol, was put into a deep sleep that would eventually lead to death.
All alone, the little girl traveled to the past to try and find a way to save her mother. There she met a shining light. The light helped the little girl to save her mother and she went back to the future. From then on she started to grow and gained powers of her own. The little girl became a beautiful woman. Queen. And she had two little girls of her own. The older she named Princess Usagi Lady Serenity after the shining light. The younger of the two was named Princess Kara Lady Selene. The little girl who was now a beautiful woman had never been happier.
Then, as in many stories, tragedy struck. A meteor hit the moon and soon after a plague began to spread. Then the time gate, which had allowed the little girl to go to the past to find the shining light was destroyed in an earthquake. The plague began to spread even more rapidly and soon even the queen had it. It left a wave of bodies in its wake, each with a black crescent moon on their forehead. Soon it was impossible to walk the streets without seeing someone with a black crescent moon, one of what was called the “walking dead”, or a rotting corpse, that cursed black sign of death still barely visible.
The king was greatly distressed by this and insisted that both his beloved daughters be sealed in the queen’s crystal so they would be saved. Princess Usagi Lady Serenity agreed, but Princess Kara Lady Selene refused. She was in love and soon to be married. She would not be saved if her love could not be as well. The king had no choice, but to agree with her. It was then that a great tragedy and an unexpected joy both came to pass. The queen died and the youngest princess learned that she was with child. Tragically, in her ninth month of pregnancy and despite all precautions, Kara caught the plague.
When the baby was born, she was miraculously healthy. That is… except for the fact that whenever she cried a faint black crescent moon could be seen on her forehead. Kara grieved for her little child and died soon after, though it was unclear if her death was from grief or her high fever. The child’s father moved to the bright blue planet of earth to try and protect his daughter. The child continued to grow without her mother and for all appearances; she was a happy healthy girl. But the girl’s own child had the cursed black moon on her own forehead, and they both died young.
Shortly after Kara’s husband and daughter moved to earth, a giant asteroid belt moved between the earth and its moon. Everyone was greatly distressed, but there was nothing they could do. As the years went on, the rift became more than just physical. The people of the earth became sure that Kara’s descendant was the true ruler of the moon and the people of the moon still waited for their sealed princess to awaken. The plague faded and the king died of old age, leaving the moon without a ruler. And the descendants of the four young senshi who had once served the queen and both of her children so faithfully now began to turn against both Lunarian queens…
Now it is the year is 4200 and all the original senshi are dead. You are either a descendant of one of the senshi and a senshi yourself, or a regular citizen. Either way, you have an opinion on the feud about the ruler of the moon. The majority of those on earth believe that Kara’s line is the rightful queen and those of the moon think the sleeping Princess Usagi Lady Serenity has the right to the throne. The princess is beginning to wake up to a moon that has been devastated by the plague. And then there are those few in the asteroid belt who believe neither one of them should rule…
